RWTO Area 7 Luncheon

Our second annual Area 7 Luncheon was hosted by the RWTO Trenton branch at Baxter Creek Golf Club in October. Members from each of our five branches: Northumberland South Durham, North Durham, Belleville, Trenton and Peterborough attended. We enjoyed a colouring relaxation experience, a chance to win $50 and we endeavoured to outbid each other at the Silent Auction. Congratulations to all winners. We also had opportunities to learn about Community Projects from other Branches. After a delicious lunch, we had an experiential ride from Toronto to Montreal in 1840, as shared by historian and the author of 38 Hours to Montreal, Dan Buchanan. He made the history of this time period, come to life with a power point presentation. William Weller transported Governor General Charles Poulett Thomson from Toronto to Montreal. It was wonderful to meet members from Area 7.  We will all look forward to next year’s event, hosted by the North Durham branch. Judy-Anne Tumber, Area 7 Director

We welcomed two new members, Shirley Hamilton and Karen Howard, to our Peterborough Branch!  They both attended our High Tea and the Area Day Luncheon and enjoyed them.  Three other retirees had hoped to come, but illness and a conflict prevented them from doing so.

Bridge for Fun!

BRIDGE FOR FUN- on hold for the present time

Each month, including the Summer, on the second Monday of the month, teachers and their friends meet together at Grace United Church to play bridge.

Our games start at 1:15 p.m. and we pay three dollars to play.  Some of us are excellent players willing to encourage those of us who are learning the game and gaining confidence.  We laugh, we chat, we visit, and we have a small snack mid-afternoon.  At present, we have about ten people per session.

We would be delighted to have you join us.  If you are learning, we are here to answer questions.  It is a relaxed, fun environment.

For more information, please call Sharon at 705-741-3313

Merry Mattress Makers!

Our Peterborough Branch has resumed making mattresses once a month alternating between Deb’s home and Theresa’s home. Since moving from the river, I have not been able to host these meetings, so I am grateful to them for continuing the project.  Since beginning this project, we have started many other groups who are still actively making mattresses including RWTO Trenton Branch, Murray St. Baptist Church, and the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Trenton (Winnie and Ralph). I take milk bags to Winnie and usually pick up 40 – 50 mattresses as well as stuffed pillows.
