Daisy Wilson Coldwater RWTO/OERO is delighted to invite retired women teachers from the Daisy Wilson Coldwater and Midland areas to join us.
All retired women teachers are eligible to join at any time.
Marion Drennen, Daisy Wilson and Genevieve Ball. These ladies were Coldwater Branch supporters and friends for Daisy when she was Provincial President in 1992.
A Day For Daisy
Our Daisy is a wonder. She’s a Provincial Past President, a world traveler, a dedicated bookworm and an enthusiastic gardener. Her garden is full of perennials, native plants and bulbs and she shares! I have been fortunate to be on the receiving end of her generosity and my garden is richer for it.
I agreed to be the Archivist last term and inherited our accumulated materials. Among them was a note book containing the minutes and photos of early members from the beginning of our branch. I didn’t recognize anyone, but I knew who might – Daisy. I called to ask for her help and of course we gravitated to gardening talk. Her cardinal flowers had died in the heat and she was bemoaning their loss. Mine were just ducky and blooming up a storm. My original plants had come from – you guessed it – Daisy’s garden. We planned a time to meet – Daisy to look at the photos – me to plant.
When I arrived I was stunned at the condition of her garden – the heat and lack of rain and the invasion of grass and weeds. I planted my plants and we had a nice visit It wasn’t until later that I had a brainstorm. Our June meeting was in the offing. At the meeting I gave everyone an update on Daisy. She finds it difficult to attend every meeting. She is in her nineties, uses a walker and sometimes she just doesn’t feel well enough. I told everyone how the summer had affected her garden and suggested that we make up a work party and in the spirit of “sharing and caring” we try to reverse the ravages of a brutal summer and clean up Daisy’s garden. I couldn’t believe the response. Lots of hands went up to support the idea and on June 29th six eager beavers worked for two and a half hours to make a start…Daisy supervised our efforts and then insisted on making a donation to the branch. We celebrated our achievements with bananabread and pink lemonade and vowed to do it again.

December Meeting 2019
The ladies of the Daisy Wilson Coldwater Branch of the RWTO met for their December meeting at the home of Gwen Robinson. Mrs. Doubtfire and her sidekick Sparky the Elf made an appearance to auction off gifts with the proceeds being donated to charity. We enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner and a good time was enjoyed by all!
October Meeting 2019
The members of the Daisy Wilson Coldwater branch of the RWTO conducted our October meeting at the beautiful Rawley Resort in Port Severn. We were pleased to host and warmly welcome our new Area 6 Director, Susan Rose who provided us with the interesting biography of her professional and post-retirement journey. Branch business was conducted before our delicious turkey dinner and after a group photo was taken to commemorate the day. Next meeting scheduled for November 5th.”

May 7, 2019
Twenty members of the Daisy Coldwater Branch of the RWTO met at the Port McNichol Community Centre on Tuesday, May 7th for their monthly meeting. The theme for this event was a baby shower to honor the arrival of the newest heir to the British throne. All of our members were encouraged to purchase a variety of baby necessities and their generosity was obvious. Immediately after the shower, these items were delivered to the very appreciative staff at the Rosewood Women’s Shelter in Midland.
Esther Lauzon, Helen Carstairs, Maureen McKinnon and Debbie Gill organized and hosted the event. Esther arranged for a variety of games, party favors, and gifts and her efforts were much appreciated by the group. A delicious lunch was prepared by the hosts and enjoyed by all, including a huge slab cake beautifully decorated to celebrate the royal baby’s birth.

July 30,2019
The members of the Daisy Wilson Coldwater branch met at the Discovery Harbour Theatre in Penetanguishene on July 30th to see a fabulous production of Beauty and the Beast. This is an annual outing for our group and all agreed this was one of the best shows yet. We met beforehand at President Helen Carstairs home in Midland and enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Helen and topped off with Michelle Lauren’s famous cheesecake. All are looking forward to next year’s show.
August 2018
In August, we had an old fashioned barn potluck. We had games and line dancing and lots of laughs. We had a visit from Dolly Parton’s lesser know sister…Ditsy Parton (portrayed by Lu). We welcomed two new members at this meeting.
July 2018
In July we all went to the King’s Wharf, Penetang to see Cruisin’ Classics. We stopped first at Michelle Lauren’s for a visit and luncheon.
May 2018 Meeting
At our May 1/18 meeting we celebrated the coming Royal Wedding. We had fine china, fancy sandwiches, a special cake and each member brought their own special china tea cup for different blends of English tea. We wore our elegant clothes and fascinator hats.Each of us sent a message of good wishes which was mailed to the Royal couple. We are awaiting a reply.
June 2018 Meeting
This meeting is at Gloucester Estates at 11:00 am. Sociallizing around the pool we will reminisce about our Muskoka Summers: camping, cottage, or canoe trips.
Reports for the Convention will be given. Pat O’Shea will give a special report about the ove ninety luncheon which she attended.
We hope for a happy and healthy summer.
April 2018 Meeting
Tuesday April 3/18 the Daisy Wilson RWTO. of Coldwater had our meeting and lunch at the Queen’s Quay in Victoria Harbour. Twenty four of us had lively conversations until lunch. Our guest Sally Joe Martin showed us the contents within the sleeping kits which are given out to the children of third world countries aged six to twelve years. Sally has been on eight overseas trips to distribute these kits for Sleeping Children Around the World. We were proud to present her with a cheque of eight hundred sixty dollars. Proceeds from our Christmas fund raiser were used to care and share for Sleeping Children Around the World.

The charity of SLEEPING CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD was begun by the Dryden family of Toronto to give out bedrolls and a duffle bag of personal supplies to school aged children six to twelve in Third World Countries. This money was raised at our Christmas auction.

December 5/17
The Daisy Wlson Coldwater Branch met December 5/17 at the Matchedash Community Centre [former school]where we welcomed several new members. The hall was beautifully decorated for our Christmas Dinner where twenty-five members could easily be seated.
Each member brings a gift wrapped and our auctioneer Mrs. Doubtfire takes charge with her Troll to bring in the bids. This auction is a fun event generating laughter and good feelings of warmth and cheer. Our auction raised over six hundred dollars to support Bed Kits for Street Kids of the Third World.
At our April meeting we have arranged for a speaker from this organization and he or she will be presented with a cheque.
Further the Nursing home in Coldwater received humungous Santa bags filled with presents and gifts that can be distributed throughout the year.
Also a cheque was presented to the Food Banks of Victoria Harbour and Coldwater to replenish empty shelves.
We enjoy ourselves in caring and sharing and have provided an improved life for our less fortunate.
November 7/17
Our Branch will be hosted in the Party Room of the Aberdeen Condos in Midland.
Our Remembrance Service will share heartwarming accounts of wartime, involving our family and friends. We also collect for a large Santa Sock of gifts for the nursing home in Coldwater.
October 3/17
This was our Thanksgiving Luncheon at the Cafe’ of Ste. Marie Among the Hurons. We heard of the history of Ste. Marie and the different activities that they host for the winter and summer.
September 12/17
Daisy Wilson Coldwater Branch joined the Orillia Branch on Sept. 12/17 -for a pot luck lunch and the meeting of our Provincial President Lois.
Marilyn Bansci from our unit was introduced as the new area six Director.

Hello Ladies:
Here are more fun and thoughtful meetings to tell about.
APRIL: We presented Sally Jo Martin with a cheque for 640.00 dollars. She volunteers to distribute Bed roll Kits to school age children in the third world countries. This money was raised at ,our Christmas Auction where Esther in the role of Mrs. Doubtfire was the auctioneer.
MAY: This was an exciting time as everyone prepared to watch the Royal Wedding. We added to this celebration by hosting our own Royal Luncheon. Fancy sandwiches, and a special cake w,ere served on bone china plates. In keeping with the theme each member brought their own favourite china cup to
sample the English Teas that had been brewed. The Spice Girls entertained to peals of laughter. Each of us wrote a personal message of good wishes to the Royal Bride and Groom. We are eagerly awaiting a reply. We welcomed our President Lois Lockhart to join us in our finery including fascinators and gloves.
JUNE: A sunny hot day found us gathered together around Sandy’s pool. We had a tasty lunch and discussed the reports from the AGM. We had received the Barbara Bain Award as we added four new members. Because we care and share and have good fun and friendship retired teachers want to be part of us.
