RWTO members of Ottawa-Carleton met for lunch at Summerhays restaurant and were honoured to have Pauline and Terry McKay as our guest speakers. Pauline is the manager of Makonsag Aboriginal Head daycare and her dad is a residential school survivor. Terry shared part of his story including being taken away at the age of 7. Pauline told us more about the daycare that we are helping this year through our Feather in your Hat initiative. The Little Bears of Makonsag made a special donation box and thanks to our amazing members and guests, we already raised close to $600 for this beautiful school. Way to go ladies.
We will be working with Makonsag over the course of the year to help provide them with items from their wish list. Our first phase will be at the AGM next month where we hope to purchase over 30 Indigenous books for their daycare. Stay tuned for more details.
As well we had two new members receive their pins. We are excited to be growing.
