April 70th Jubilee Celebration Luncheon

April 26,2026 | St. Catharines

Wasn’t that a party! Approximately 160 members and guests gathered at
Club Italia on April 22 to celebrate, laugh, dine and share memories at
our 70th Jubilee Luncheon. Members entered to find a Welcome Wall of
refreshing punch, leading to a beautifully decorated luncheon room.
Each place setting held a handmade card designed by Fern Lackenbauer and
assembled by her crew and a party bag containing an RWTO/OERO pen and
notepad and a keepsake mineral stone pendant handcrafted by Beth Kent.
St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe, a former high school physics
teacher, welcomed everyone and spoke about the importance of teachers in
his own life. Our Provincial President Linda Sargeant gave an inspiring
talk about her travels around the province and the challenges and
rewards of membership in our organization.
Displays and pictures of “days gone by” were plentiful. A “Through
the Ages” slideshow scrolled on two large screens, while an abundance of
old scrapbooks and photo albums sparked conversation and laughter about
shared experiences and new friendships made.
As lunch progressed, we watched short video interviews with 6 of
our Forever Young members: Agnes Wieler, Bev Davies, Bertha Wieler, Joan
Sisler-Wells, Marion Cross and Marg Newby, who spoke about their early
days as teachers. Trivia contest answers were discussed at each table
and we were delighted with musical entertainment of the highest order
from The Teapot Ladies, led by a tea-cozied Patti Malkiewich.
Members stood and danced to “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” (with real
bubble accompaniment!) and a 70th Anniversary special edition of “Sweet
Caroline”.
It was a wonderful celebration and members lingered until the last
moment, renewing friendships and sharing memories. Thanks to everyone
who contributed to this celebration. “We’ll Meet Again” – maybe at the
May Luncheon??
