Our luncheon at RiverBend Golf Community clubhouse this month was most enjoyable, praises were sung about the meal, and the serving staff were thanked for their efficiency in serving our meals.
Our speakers, Amy and Brianne from Senior Discovery Tours (London ON office) explained the many advantages their travel service offers to seniors and several of our members endorsed them having made numerous trips far and wide with Senior Discovery Tours.
Last month, two new members were introduced and this month five more new members were introduced with a brief bio on where they taught prior to retirement and what are their current hobbies/interests. The new members this month are Marj Dudley, Cathy Lewis, Mary Miller-Bishop, Barbara Goldhawk and Cornelia Verwer.
Lynda Faulkner reported that we have a healthy bank balance and informed us that a transaction fee is charged to our branch for more than 35 transactions in a month. Since this is a very convenient way for members to pay for their luncheon, she suggested that if a members called her (519-474-0620) to say they were coming to a luncheon and would pay cash at the door, she would pass the name along to our luncheon coordinator, Sandra McKeen. This had worked well during the recent postal strike for all who normally mail in a cheque, and all had paid as promised. Of course, calls must be made on or before the due date which since the November luncheon is on the 20th, payment or calls must be made by November 6th.
Our charity Outreach in October was to the Women’s Rural Resource Centre, Strathroy and Area and the total monies collected was an outstanding $1700.00 plus a number of bags with supplies for women and their children.
The Share the Wealth Draw was won by two members of $113.00 each, with 50% of the money – $226.00 helping out the branch’s expenses. There were 4 draws for gift bags of goodies donated by members. A reminder was given about the Rewards card, which is punched for every participation in a branch activity, that one of the draws will be made in November.
The number of books wrapped for the “blind date with a book”, purchase on the Book Sale table was seen to have increased this month as members learn of this new project.
