The London-Middlesex Branch has been preparing to distribute for Mother’s Day, 70 home-sewn tote bags full of personal care items to 70 mothers residing in affordable housing units. We have partnered with the London-Middlesex Housing Chaplaincy (that oversees housing across the city) and decided on 70 to tie in with the RWTO/OERO 70th Anniversary year of 2026.
The bags have been sewn by our members; the items have been selected and will be paid for by donations our members make as this month’s “Outreach”.
In addition, Michele Specht and Helen Bobyk -two of our executive members had an idea to create 70 Mother’s Day cards – one for each tote bag – from one mother to another. A request went out in March for volunteers to come together and create these very special cards, which they did on April 17th.
Our Branch President Linda Freeman was inspired when she suggested this 70 Sisters Project to the executive. Many of our members have come together and generously given their time and creativity to sew bags, create cards and fill those bags to make this a special Mothers’ Day in celebrating the Jubilee year.
