Upper Canada East’s Spring Luncheon

April 19,2023 | Upper Canada East

UCE was very pleased to be together again for our first Spring luncheon. It was held at the St. John’s United Church in Cardinal with 41 attending. The ladies of the church provided a delicious pork dinner with homemade pies for dessert. YUM!! Judy Drummond, the Provincial President brought greetings from the board and gave us a little history of this wonderful organization. Joyce Millard handed out carnations to the birthday gals, Mary Ellen Garlough provided the humour and the Iroquois/Cardinal group organized the gift sharing, the book exchange, and the guest speaker. Cathy Ashby, Executive Director of the House of Lazarus introduced us to their latest project to help clients in need. They have opened a Warming House in Morrisburg On, providing a safe. warm and inviting location for those in need to come and rest for the day. They have arranged programs to be present to assist them in finding accommodations, jobs, lawyers, and even preparing their income tax. She also touched on the important program of providing healthy lunches for children on the weekends. They are now providing food and snacks to over 200 children each week. We are so blessed to have this facility in our community providing so many worthy programs for the many clients in need of support during these difficult economic times.
